We are seeking a Technical Drawing and Design Consultant to join our talented, global Charcoalblue Experience (CBX) team. This is a new position working directly with a key client to produce and communicate design standards and best practice for their User Experience (UX) spaces.

Our CBX team includes specialist Project Managers, Design Managers, Research & Development (R&D) consultants, Technical Drawing and Standards Consultants, Producers, and service administrators. This team works closely with single external clients and team members are often fully embedded into the client’s workflow and teams.

Brief Description of Role


Charcoalblue Experience was approached by a long-standing client to provide a Technical Drawing and Design Consultant to support a fleet of world-leading UX (User Experience) spaces.  Working directly with the client team, but contracted to Charcoalblue, and benefitting from day to day support from the wider Charcoalblue Experience team, working in this role, you will develop a set of drawing standards to communicate design standards to external design teams and act as the first point of contact for queries on the room requirements.

The spaces will include user experience testing labs, sprint spaces, custom workplaces and advanced collaboration.  You will take responsibility for translating the user requirements into a set of technical drawings in both AutoCAD and REVIT formats, incorporate and review AV and other technical requirements.  You will also have the opportunity to contribute to wider initiatives aimed at improving the quality of information, design process and presentation of materials.

This role is an excellent opportunity for a skilled design technician to develop their career working on a range of exciting spaces and interacting regularly with highly skilled design teams.


Key Duties

  • To review, document and manage requests from client team Project Managers

  • To maintain a project intake model to manage ongoing, project specific and high priority requests

  • To develop, maintain and update an AutoCAD and REVIT standards library for all UX space types

  • To provide standard design assets to external design teams to allow them to design UX spaces

  • To review and comment on ‘test-fits’ of standard UX spaces for larger projects to assist external design teams

  • To carry out sketch layouts of UX spaces to assist external design teams for specific projects

  • To create basic 3D models from architectural drawings to illustrate designs for internal team members

  • To attend design team meetings as required to respond to queries around UX space layouts and feedback on approved layouts

  • To identify opportunities for greater integration with wider design process that will improve quality and efficiency of the delivery of UX spaces

  • To regularly report progress back including identifying priorities, ongoing standards projects, suggested improvements and any challenges.

Key Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

Qualifications

A Bachelor level degree in Architectural technology, design, engineering, Audio-visual or related field

Autodesk certified professional in Revit and AutoCAD, or demonstrable equivalent skill set, plus 5 years’ experience working as a technical designer in the architectural design, audio-visual or construction field.

Or in lieu of a degree: 7+ years' demonstrable experience of technical drawing within the architectural design or construction fields.

Professional Experience

Experience producing standard drawings and documentation in a construction or design environment

Experience working with RIBA or AIA design stages

Experience working on projects from conception, creating templates, REVIT families and

High level of IT literacy (Google docs, Windows 10, Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat).

Interpersonal Skills

Highly organized, excellent time management skills, reliable. 

Self-starting and ability to manage own time

Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

Able to work successfully on own initiative, as well as part of a local and global team.

Friendly, professional manner.

Excellent communications skills, verbal, drawn and written.

Interest in developing role and sharing knowledge

An interest in user experience, events or experiential spaces.

Desirable:

Skillsets

Experience working with Audio-visual systems, CTS or similar qualification.

Experience in producing basic renders in 3DS studio max, or similar software.

Experience working with Unity or Unreal engine

Ability to create custom code to automate process within drawing packages

Employment Details

Hours

We operate a flexible working hours policy and recognize the importance of the work/life balance.

The role is being offered on a full-time, 40 hours per week basis.

As an international organization, the needs of the business are as such that this role requires a flexibility in working hours (which can be variable from week to week) to facilitate project demands and maintain support across our global entities’ varying time-zones.

Working hours patterns will be discussed in more detail at the interview stages and as you will be dealing with international team members some flexibility for different time zones will be required.

The role is subject to a three-month probationary period.

Location

We are currently working in a distributed model, meaning you will work mostly from your home initially (or other place of your choosing) with occasional working at one of our UK studios (London or Bristol). When government guidelines allow, there will be the option to work from one of our studios if preferred and you may be required to attend our studio(s) or client offices from time to time once they reopen

Some national and international travel may be required occasionally so you must be able to travel as required, with notice.

Salary Range

Please state your salary expectations in your covering letter in line with your experience. We will provide more information around likely salary banding prior to interview.

Annual Leave

You will receive 20 days’ annual leave minimum per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays.

Charcoalblue operates a bonus scheme which you will benefit from following successful completion of a three-month probationary period. Please note that this is subject to the Partnership’s performance year on year and is not guaranteed.

On successful completion of your probationary period, you will be eligible to join our employers’ auto-enrolment pension scheme. At the end of your first year’s employment, you will receive free life insurance up to our policy limits.
