Job Description 

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic BIM Assistant with specific expertise in BIM software to support our team of designers in our US practice. You will be responsible for supporting on all aspects of training, design and documenting in BIM software, alongside our internal teams which can include theatre designers, lighting designers, stage equipment designers, and acousticians.

You will report to one of our Principals, who will manage your project assignments and workload along with Charcoalblue’s Resources Coordinator. You will have the chance to meet regularly with your line manager to ensure you are fully supported in your role and since theatre consultancy is a specialist field, we will provide role-specific inductions and ongoing training to help you succeed.

Primary Responsibilities

You will provide the following day to day BIM support for our US team members:

  • To work closely with Charcoalblue’s BIM Coordinator to deliver high quality BIM assistance across the practice, in line with industry standards.
  • To provide knowledge to new consultants and provide assistance and training on BIM software as required.
  • To support the BIM Coordinator on continual improvement within work practices as detailed through internal audits.
  • To be compliant in all procedures as per ISO:9001 standards.
  • To uphold the quality standards of Charcoalblue as detailed within our ISO:9001 standard Quality Management System.
  • Set up Charcoalblue projects in BIM and add users to projects on our internal hub.
  • Liaise with Project Team Leaders & Design team BIM manager to ensure team access on external hub projects.
  • Support the importing of project specific drawing borders as required in CAD and BIM.
  • Support on the setting up of Charcoalblue models in BIM software, and linking models as appropriate. Charcoalblue projects typically have as many as 4 separate models linked as required.
  • Support on the setting up of views and drawing sheets in CAD and BIM.
  • Ensure application of Charcoalblue Revit and CAD standards on all projects.
  • Management / maintenance of family and block libraries.
  • Management / maintenance of project & family templates.
  • Creation and maintenance of CAD templates for all design disciplines.
  • Offer some CAD support, including developing and maintaining CAD templates for 2D drafting and documentation work.
  • Downloading of design team models and hosting to internal BIM360 hub.
  • Updating of linked model.
  • Publishing / uploading of CBL model.
  • Creation of Navisworks model for wider CBL review where required (requires user with AEC collection).
  • Assist designers with technical Revit and CAD issues (across all studios).
  • Provide additional drafting / modelling resource close to deadlines.
  • Creation of families and CAD blocks (particularly those from existing product where design input is not required).
  • Project specific requirements (COBie/ Uniclass parameters, Revizto/ BIMtrack coordination tools).
  • Other ad hoc BIM related tasks as required.

The above list is not exhaustive - this is a developing role, and we expect that additional tasks will be incorporated as it evolves.

Key Skills

Charcoalblue is open to receiving applications with a variety of levels of experience. We are seeking a broad candidate pool, with no set education or experience requirements. If you meet most of the qualifications below, we encourage you to apply.

  • A minimum 1-2 years’ experience in a similar BIM focused role, or relevant qualification.
  • The ability to self-manage and set work plans for the successful delivery of work against deadlines with minimal input from management. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain BIM systems to others in a training setting.
  • A detailed knowledge of BIM software, with significant experience in AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • A practical knowledge of using BIM software to design theatre/performing arts spaces and systems.
  • Familiarity with the standard suite of Microsoft Office, GSuite products, Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam.
  • Knowledge of contractual issues and the AIA project stages and associated levels of work output.
  • Experience and interest in live performance, broadcast, and/or events would be welcomed, but not essential for the role.

Employment Details

In response to the pandemic, Charcoalblue is operating a remote working model with team members working primarily from their own homes but affiliated with a geographical team. You will not be required to work from a Charcoalblue studio, but you must be able to travel to one of our studios from time to time, when the company deems it is safe to do so in line with federal/state advice. At that time, our studio spaces will be available to employees and clients as collaborative, social spaces, with quiet working areas if required.

We will consider applicants from all US-based locations without the need to relocate.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position and employment at Charcoalblue is at will.

We are offering this role on either a 32 hour or 40 hour working week basis to encourage applications from as wide a range of candidates as possible. Please state your preference within your covering letter.

Benefits

  • We currently operate an ‘unlimited vacation’ policy* – meaning that you are entitled to a minimum of 15 days’ vacation per year to support your personal wellbeing. This is in addition to federal and some local Public Holidays. *Should you wish to take additional days’ vacation, you may request these through your line manager and approval will be given subject to the demands of your projects and the company’s needs at the time.
  • We traditionally close our studios between Christmas and New Year, resulting in an additional average 4-5 days’ paid holiday per annum. 
  • Following 60 days’ employment, you will be eligible to join our 401K scheme (employee contributions only). Charcoalblue will provide 5% annual employer contribution following two years of employment.
  • Following 60 days’ employment, you will be eligible to join our company health insurance policy subject to the terms and conditions of the policy which are subject to alteration from time to time.
  • Charcoalblue operates a bonus scheme which is subject to the Partnership’s performance year on year, is not guaranteed and is paid pro rata as applicable.
  • Two free theatre/ live performance tickets per month to enable you to immerse yourself in the industry as far as possible, in line with our Policy limits.
  • Monthly contribution to your home internet service and home utilities to enable you to work from home effectively in line with our distributed working model.

Salary

$58,000- $68,000 gross per annum, based on a 40-hour working week, depending on experience. Please state your salary expectations in your covering letter in line with your experience.
